French Onion Soup

cool runnings

Servings: 6 |  Preparation time: 30 minutes |  Cooking time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 8 Cool Runnings beef bouillon cubes
  • 6 slices Swiss cheese
  • 6 cups water
  • 4 cups thinly sliced onions
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 6 slices of french bread (3/4 inch thick), buttered and toasted

      Directions
      1. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium-low heat. Add the onions and garlic, and cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until soft, golden, and translucent—about 8 to 10 minutes.

      2. Add the water, bouillon cubes, and Worcestershire sauce to the pan. Increase the heat and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for 30 minutes to allow the flavours to develop.

      3.  Preheat your oven to broil. Carefully ladle the hot soup into oven-safe bowls. Place a slice of French bread on top of each bowl, then cover with cheese slices.

      4. Transfer the bowls to the oven and broil until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

      5. Carefully remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and enjoy!
